Pantun Remaja

Whatever name you call it, be it love, cinta or sayang. One thing remains. It's a way of expressing your feelings for your loved ones. It's nice to see loving couple (at times) but I really hate to see those who fell out love demonstrating their hurt and rejection. Its the end of the world for them.

Wish I could take pictures of them sulking, crying and lamenting their sorrows. For those who are in love, out of love or depressed...perhaps you will be able to relate to these pantuns:

Pantun Nasihat

You just don't know how to choose the right words on these youngsters when they are in love. Somehow, even this seasoned writer is at a loss for words. So I say it in Pantun. Hopefully they understand what I am trying to tell them.

JANGAN DISEBUT HAL KARYAWAN
TAK INGIN KU INGAT LEMBARAN CERITA
MULA-MULA DULU BIAR BERKAWAN
JANGAN TERUS BERMAIN CINTA

SUNGGUH USANG RUMAH PUSAKA
CAT DISEMBUR BERWARNA JINGGA
SEMUA ANAKU DEGIL-DEGIL BELAKA

Pantun I

I fell in love with pantun when I was very young. But I have soon progressed beyond, 'Buah cempedak di luar pagar...and later on during my 'heydey' it went on to "Hendak tidur, tidurlah mata.

Today, I'm compelled to compile my very own pantuns plus some of my friends in this blog. This collection will be a cherished treasure for pantun lovers. The turn of phrase in pantun is so unique, different and beautiful. The way it relates the pembayang maksud (the first two lines) and the maksud (the last two lines) is unbelievable because you can coin any pembayang maksud but the crux of a pantun is most pertinent because thats 'THE MESSAGE'.

I tried to educate all my five 'kids' about Pantun. Only Zana and Arif was elated initially. Wahida, though reluctant to be caught up in the latest craze, relented eventually. Wonder when Azira and Nurul Ain will folow suit.

If you are not used to coin a pantun, you would find it difficult and tricky. First, think of the Maksud then only the pembayang maksud comes in. It's like playing chess or draught, the more practice you get the better you get. But never stop. It's like the tap you just have to continue opening it till the water runs out. Never stop the practice, the 'water' is going to get rusty.

These days, we speak and SMS via pantun in and out of the office. It's fun and so 'educational.' On lonely nights, when I need to exercise my creative juices, I get Arif and Zana to join me on the 'pantun ride.' I think they kind of enjoy it. I hope they are are not doing it because I forced them. Wahida (wawa) is honing her skills slowly but surely and has been accepted in our pantun club.

Anyway, it's for their own good. They should be reminded of their Malay roots once in a while and I take it as my responsibility to educate them on Pantun (first). Next lesson will be gurindam, then Syair. But before I could reach the Syair stage, I think its time to retire. One day, they will look back and 'thank' me for making them a pantun expert.
